"A Raisin in the Sun," written by Lorraine Hansberry is about a lower class African American family living in the South side of Chicago in the 1950's.  In the family's small home lived Mama, Ruth, Walter, Bennie and Travis.  The family is financially poor, so when Mama receives a $10,000 insurance check as a result of her husbands passing, all of the family members a quick to share their ideas on how they think the check should be spent. Mama wants to use the money to purchase a house, which would fulfill her deceased husbands dreams. Walter Lee wants to use the check to invest in a liquor store, as one day he hopes to become rich off of it. Walter really cared about getting rich, while this might help the family he wanted it for his pride. So once Mama gave him some of the money to invest in his liquor store he became happier. However when the money disappeared, he stuck up for his family and fought for them. Walter's sister, Beneatha, wants to put the money towards her medical school tuition. Beneath seemed to be pulled in many directions, and she seemed to struggle to find her identity. She saw what others wanted her to do but it wasn't what she wanted.

Overall I enjoyed the play and thought that it had a very good story line. It made me see that there is more important things in life than money and that ultimately it is your family that comes first.
